The great peculiarity of LED technology lamps is that they are usually composed of several bulbs or best led headlight kit according to the luminous intensity that is to be achieved.
The first LED was invented in 1962 by Nick Holonyak, an advisory scientist for the US company General Electric, and from then until now LED technology has advanced dramatically, currently posing as one of the most efficient, ecological and profitable.
Evolution of LED lamps
At first, during the decade of the 60’s of the last century, LEDs began to be manufactured and distributed by commercial circuits in order to be used as indicators of on and off, failures and other types of conditions that could affect electrical appliances of any kind. The color of these first LEDs was basically red, although there were also green and yellow, and its use as a light indicator with traffic light code was not uncommon.
However, in the decade of the 90s, the development of LED technology made a great leap forward with the invention of blue, white and ultraviolet LEDs, with which its application possibilities increased exponentially until reaching the current 95% of adaptability to any lighting technology.
Components and operation
LED bulbs are formed by an anode (positive) and a cathode (negative), and among its main components are the lens (an encapsulation usually made of epoxy plastic), a metallic contact that acts as a conductive wire, a reflecting cavity (also called cup), an anvil and a platelet.
It must be taken into account that the LEDs admit a power of between 1.8 and 3.8 volts, depending on the color and the power supported by the components of each type of LED, so for lighting functions they are usually presented in strips of LEDs that require the use of a transformer, usually 12 or 24 volts, and of course the corresponding resistors that limit the current that passes through them. However, commercial LED lighting solutions include all these components and in practice do not require any separate installation or special considerations.
Advantages and disadvantages of LED bulbs
The advantages of LED lighting compared to other types of light bulbs are many and varied, among which is the significant energy savings (about 80%), high reliability and resistance to vibrations (which makes it especially indicated for use in public lighting and, above all, in areas with high human, environmental and seismic activity), its little wear and tear in the face of continued use (even in intermittence, or with recurring switching off and on) and its high luminous performance in front to the scarce transformation that supposes of electrical energy in calorific energy, what turns it into a very safe illumination at the time of being manipulated, even in hot.
It is estimated that white light LEDs, those of more recent creation and of greater application for lighting by bulbs and bulbs, can last up to 20 years, which is equivalent to a lifetime of more than 175,000 hours.
According to the color and its wavelength, the LEDs are formed by different components (some of which, as we have already mentioned, should be conveniently treated when recycling them given their harmfulness to the environment and the health of people, as with other types of light bulbs). This is the biggest disadvantage that LEDs have, which on the other hand is not even comparable to the dangers of using other types of light bulbs.
